Definitely rings true for me.
I also had an orthogonal but similar experience learning math as a kid. I was exposed to programming from an unusually age, having learned BASIC before I learned algebra. It took me literally a year to understand the meaning of something like 3 = x + 2. I kept asking my teachers, “yes, but what IS x?” And they kept repeating “that’s the point! You solve for it!”
We were speaking totally different languages. I didn’t understand the “=” operator outside of the context of variable assignment and they didn’t understand anything about programming.
